Competitive Analysis of Three Agribusiness Segments in California’s San Joaquin Valley. Mt. Auburn completed a competitive analysis of three segments of the agribusiness sector in California’s San Joaquin Valley for a collaborative business-labor sectoral initiative to increase workforce productivity and wages and strengthen the industry’s competitive position. The analysis assessed marketing/distribution and production issues. These included: 1) factors driving changes in the marketing and distribution system, including the globalization of agricultural markets, retail and foodservice consolidation, and changing consumer needs and preferences; and 2) key issues affecting the local production environment, including water, land, production technology, regulatory compliance, electricity supply, and agricultural financing.
