Summer Intern 2021


Job Description:

We are seeking a summer intern to provide project support to senior staff on local and national initiatives related to community development, workforce development, and small business and economic development. The ideal candidate will have an opportunity to make a significant contribution to a project that most closely matches their background and interest and will also gain exposure to all aspects of the firm's work. This is a paid internship position. Start and end dates are flexible but ideally span June, July, and August.

Skills:

  • Work independently and collaboratively as part of our team; our team is currently fully remote and expects to continue to work remotely at least through the summer months
  • Execute and communicate analysis with moderate supervision
  • Demonstrate superior writing skills in order to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely
  • Show creativity and initiative in developing new ways to visualize information and data
  • Conduct thorough and comprehensive mixed-methodology research
  • Synthesize qualitative and quantitative data accurately and be comfortable drawing conclusions
  • Demonstrate comfort and skill in conveying information and findings orally

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in an accredited university/college undergraduate or graduate program with a focus on public policy, business, urban planning, or other related field
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Superior organizational skills, interpersonal skills, flexibility, and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple deadline-driven tasks effectively and efficiently
  • Must be a quick learner who is self-motivated and able to ask questions/seek clarity when needed
  • Interest in and commitment to racial and economic justice

Economic Mobility Research and Project Assistant


Job Description:

Mt. Auburn Associates seeks a Research and Project Assistant for an internship or contract position for the summer of 2021 with possibility for continuation.

Position summary

The Research and Project Assistant will work with Mt. Auburn staff on a project supported by a major national foundation to:

  • Understand the different multisite models that exist to support community/non-governmental actors in advancing upward mobility, the types of support provided by these models that are most useful, and the kind of impact these supports can have
  • Understand the challenges and advantages of different models or types of support
  • Help inform the foundation's strategic direction of its economic mobility portfolio

What You'll Do:

  • Engage in a literature review of different multisite initiatives focused on economic mobility
  • Complete in-depth research on specific models
  • Participate in interviews with key stakeholders involved in the selected models
  • Join and provide your input to our regular team meetings
  • Assist in analyzing the research and creating materials including visualizations

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a graduate program with a focus on public policy, business, urban planning, or other related field

Mt. Auburn Associates is based in Somerville, MA. While this position is currently remote, staff may periodically return to the office during the next six months.

Hourly rate: $20/hr
Schedule: 25-40 hours per week
Start date: Flexible, starting May 2021
